THE THROUGHLINE
Jim Beam opened its 200-year-old Kentucky distillery to creators this week as a working production space. Disney opened hundreds of titles from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and FX to TikTok creators the same week, and said it will hand over the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank for two days in September. Kickstarter put up a million dollars to invest in creators and promote its own platform.
None of those decisions is a media buy, and none is a creator fee, but all will positively impact the ultimate success and reach of their respective campaigns in a way that money can’t buy. Each represents a brand leveraging the value of a unique asset it already owns instead of simply writing a check to rent someone else's reach. That’s a strategic decision brands of any size can make, because the unique asset doesn't have to be as valuable as Disney’s film catalog; it just has to be a brand asset a creator can't access on their own.
Below, a deep dive into the Jim Beam collab, Vita Coco's CMO on the power of social listening and moving fast, and an Adobe study on brand recall.

THE LEAD
Jim Beam Turned Its Distillery Into a Production Space and Handed Creators the Keys
James B. Beam Distilling Co. launched Creator Campus on August 6, an open call inviting podcasters, musicians, filmmakers and other creators to apply to produce their own work on its Clermont, Kentucky grounds. Selected applicants get the campus as a recording and filming location, along with the distillery tour, tastings, the restaurants, and the Clermont Supper Club series. (Applicants have to be 21 or older, this being a distillery.)
Food and beverage is the fourth-largest content category on YouTube, generating 457 billion views in the first quarter of 2025 alone, up 32% year over year, and 99% of the top 4,000 channels in that category by views belong to creators rather than to brands or publishers, according to Pixability. Jim Beam isn't going to stand out in that ranking just by publishing more often, so it built a story around its unique brand heritage.
For most of the last century, the scarce inputs in production were camera equipment and location. The studios owned both, which is why a sound stage and backlot could often be worth more than the revenue from the films shot on them. With digital cameras now in everyone's pocket, the scarce input now is a place worth filming that we haven’t all seen before. Jim Beam happens to own just the sort of location perfect to lure creators who can create footage in a place few of us have visited.
You may not have a distillery to film in, but rather a test kitchen, a farm, a factory floor, a design archive, or a founder who can speak about your brand in a way no one else can. When you work with independent creators, you're making a choice either way: place them inside a location only your brand can offer, or buy placement in a context any competitor could buy too.

QUICK HITS
Disney opened its film library to TikTok creators and put the results back inside Disney+.
Disney and TikTok announced a global partnership on August 6, giving opted-in creators assets from hundreds of Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and FX titles, with the resulting videos running both on TikTok and inside Verts, the vertical feed Disney+ launched in March. Disney cited TikTok data showing roughly 6.5 million film and TV posts a day last year. The studio with the most aggressive history of protecting its IP is now lending pieces of it out, which represents a reasonable measure of what fan-made video is worth to brands these days.

Vita Coco's biggest campaign of the year started with a comment on TikTok.
A South Carolina rapper named Trim posted a snippet of a song called "Coconut Water" in February. Vita Coco's social team commented the same day and drew close to 2,000 likes on the comment alone. The artist and the brand teamed up to make the collab official, and the cross-promotions that followed included a Times Square billboard that went live June 9. Official content from the brand has since reached 8.7 million views and 568,000 engagements, with another 20.6 million views on TikTok from remixed posts. CMO Jane Prior credits always-on social listening and a short approval path rather than budget, but says she still can't tell how many of those viewers became first-time buyers.

Only 17% of consumers were confident they could name the last three ads they'd seen a day earlier.
Adobe surveyed 1,002 U.S. consumers on brand recall and found irrelevance the leading reason ads don't stick, cited by 71%, ahead of clickbait at 56% and lack of trust at 55%. Respondents said a message needed at least four exposures inside 24 hours before it registered, and short-form video was the most memorable format at 52%, well ahead of static images at 30%. Adobe published the study in support of its Adobe GenStudio for Performance Marketing product, which is designed to ensure content resonates in every market by tailoring content for specific personas, segments, and regions.

WORTH WATCHING
Kickstarter is investing in creators.
The company launched a $1 million Culture Fund on August 10, the first fund it has financed entirely on its own to support creators in the fields of art, fashion, film and music. CEO Everette Taylor says 2025 was Kickstarter's best year on record and 2026 is running roughly 40% ahead of it. Selected recipients will receive a direct pledge to their live Kickstarter campaign. Pledge amounts will vary based on the project and level of support needed. Projects must be live on Kickstarter on or before December 31, 2026 to qualify.

THE TAKEAWAY
Before you launch another creator campaign, consider what you already own that a creator doesn’t. Jim Beam had a whiskey distillery; Disney had valuable film IP and a studio back lot; Vita Coco had a marketing team that understood how to leverage a cultural moment for its own success. Access is the one line in a content budget that doesn't compete with media dollars, and it tends to create work that outlasts the four exposures Adobe says a paid impression needs to be memorable.

COMMISSIONING SIGNALS — WEEK OF AUGUST 11, 2026
Who's buying, hiring, and greenlighting branded content this week, from job-post signals to confirmed deals.
This week's radar: 17 creator and content roles posted. 10 sit in-house at brands, 4 at agencies and vendors serving brands, 3 at platforms. 3 are director level or above. 9 disclosed a salary band in U.S. dollars, median $110,000.
Read this: Ten of the seventeen roles sit inside brands, and only three of the seventeen are director level or above. Both of the Director titles belong to companies that own catalog: Universal Music Group hiring a Director of Owned and Operated Content Strategy for REPUBLIC Collective's fan, genre, and editorial pages, and L'Oréal hiring a Director of Influencer Marketing for Urban Decay at $128,000 to $180,000. The highest disclosed compensation on the radar isn't a brand-side job at all. It's an account executive at Daisy, a creator-distribution startup, at $200,000 to $350,000 in base pay against a quota selling creator programs into CPG, retail, beauty and fashion. Brands are staffing this work at the manager level while the companies selling to those brands are paying more than twice as much to reach them.
Universe: creator and content roles listed in the August 4, 2026 Net Influencer Creator Economy Job Radar. Salary figures are midpoints of disclosed ranges; one Canadian-dollar band and one on-target-earnings figure are excluded from the median.
Brands building owned capability
James B. Beam Distilling Co. — Creator Campus
Spirits · In-house · Open-call production residency · Suntory Global Spirits, Clermont, Kentucky campus · Applications open · Not disclosed · Confirmed
Why it matters: A distillery converting its visitor grounds into a bookable production location is the cheapest version of owned capability on this list, because the capital was spent two centuries ago. It also puts Beam in the room while the content gets made rather than in the approval queue afterward. The open question is selection: an open call with no named curator either surfaces the creators nobody else has signed or fills the calendar with whoever applies first.

The Walt Disney Company — "Created in LA"
Entertainment · In-house · Two-day creator conference · Jon Youshaei, El Capitan Theatre, Walt Disney Studios lot · September 17–18 · 350 attendees · Confirmed
Why it matters: Disney is opening the El Capitan to premiere creator-made videos for the first time in the theater's history and moving day two onto the Burbank lot, with Chief Marketing and Brand Officer Asad Ayaz speaking alongside Mindy Kaling and Zach King. Hosting the conference is a cheaper way to sit at the center of creator dealmaking than acquiring into it. Watch whether the second edition carries sponsors, which is when it stops being a marketing expense and starts being a business.

L'Oréal (Urban Decay) — Director, Influencer Marketing
Beauty · In-house · Always-on creator strategy across micro, mid-tier and macro · Internal and external agency teams · Open role, active hiring · $128,000–$180,000 plus bonus · Confirmed intent
Why it matters: The brief includes a win-back strategy for lapsed creators, which is a retention problem rather than an acquisition one and a sign the roster has been running long enough to churn. Brands at this stage usually discover that re-signing a creator who already knows the product is cheaper than briefing a new one. The number to watch is how much of the budget stays earned rather than paid.

Universal Music Group — Director, Owned and Operated Content Strategy
Music · In-house · REPUBLIC Collective fan, genre and editorial pages · Internal teams plus third-party agencies · Open role, active hiring · $63,010–$145,000 · Confirmed intent
Why it matters: A major label hiring a director to run its own network of fan and genre pages is a rights holder deciding to be a publisher rather than to license into someone else's feed. The $82,000 spread on the band suggests the scope isn't settled, which usually means the company knows it needs the function before it knows how big the function is.

vineyard vines — Talent and Influencer Marketing Manager
Apparel · In-house · Global creator, influencer and ambassador program · More than 120 retail locations · Open role, active hiring · Not disclosed · Confirmed intent
Why it matters: The role owns the influencer budget, negotiates long-term ambassador agreements and standardizes reporting across paid and organic, which is three jobs that usually sit in three places. A retailer this size consolidating them under one manager is the practical shape of the build-versus-buy decision for a company that isn't going to staff a department.

Platforms buying creator supply
Disney and TikTok — Global creator content partnership
Streaming · Platform · Licensed clip and asset access for short-form · Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, FX; Disney+ Verts · U.S. pilot in the coming months · Hundreds of titles · Confirmed
Why it matters: Disney is trading library access for creator labor and getting a refreshed vertical feed out of it, which costs less than commissioning the same volume. The jointly run Disney Creator Ambassador Program is where the real terms will show up, since that's the tier that gets events, visibility and career pathways. For any brand negotiating usage rights this quarter, the largest IP holder in the business just set a public precedent for lending characters out.

Kickstarter — Culture Fund
Crowdfunding · Platform · Direct contributions to live campaigns · Creative Scotland, £67,500 · Launched August 10 · $1 million · Confirmed
Why it matters: Money that takes no equity and buys no rights is rare enough to be worth marking. It also gives Kickstarter first sight of which campaigns have traction, which is a data position rather than a charitable one. Whether outside partners fund under the same umbrella at meaningful scale will tell you if this is infrastructure or a campaign.

Disney Channel — Series led by Lala Sadii
Television · Platform · Scripted series inspired by a creator's life · Lala Sadii, more than 25 million TikTok followers · Attached · Not disclosed · Confirmed
Why it matters: A linear children's network building a scripted series around a TikTok personality is the older side of the business buying audience the newer side already has. It also raises the price of that creator's next brand deal, because a series credit changes what she's selling. Anyone with an option on a creator heading into production should read their renewal terms now.

KICK — KICK Ads
Livestreaming · Platform · First advertiser access since launch · Not disclosed · Launched · Not disclosed · Confirmed
Why it matters: Three years of building audience before selling any of it is an unusual amount of patience, and it means the inventory arrives with a creator base that didn't grow around ad load. Early inventory on a new platform tends to be underpriced relative to attention for about two quarters. That window is the whole opportunity.

Brands signing long-form partnerships
Vita Coco — Trim "Coconut Water" partnership
Beverage · In-house · Music-led creator campaign · Trim, Times Square billboard, office visit · Launched June 9 · 8.7 million official views, 20.6 million from user posts · Confirmed
Why it matters: The third music-driven partnership Vita Coco has run this way, which moves it from a lucky comment to a repeatable capability. What the brand supplied was access and speed rather than a script, and the most-shared pieces came from the creator's side. The gap the CMO names herself, connecting discovery to first-time buyers, is the same gap most of this brief's readers have.

Agencies and studios building entertainment arms
REACH — Luke Himmelsbach hired to lead brand partnerships
Creator media · Supply side · Brand partnership sales across an expanded roster · Former GigaStar executive · Announced · Not disclosed · Confirmed
Why it matters: A creator media company expanding its roster and hiring a partnerships lead in the same announcement is building sell-side capacity ahead of the fourth quarter. Expect the pitch to arrive before the RFP does. The question worth asking across the table is whether they can describe what a creator's audience does, not just how many of them there are.

Capital buying creator IP
Whatnot — $545 million Series G
Livestream commerce · Buy side · Growth capital for a creator-seller marketplace · Greycroft and others · Closed · $20 billion valuation · Confirmed
Why it matters: A twenty-billion-dollar valuation on a marketplace where creators are the sales channel prices the creator-as-retailer model rather than the creator-as-media model. Capital at that scale usually goes into seller acquisition and fee subsidy, which makes the next two quarters cheap for brands testing livestream selling. It won't stay cheap.
