THE THROUGHLINE

Maybelline ran seven placements in "Love Island," from the villa Glam Room to the show's own app. Season 8 of Peacock's hit streaming show closed with Monday night's reunion special. Over the season, weekly sales of the brand's Lifter Gel gloss grew tenfold between the June 2 premiere and the July 12 finale, and the product went from under 5% of its lip business by unit in May to more than 30% in July, according to Daash Intelligence.

In addition to Maybelline's sponsorship of the First Look teasers and the shoppable ads whose on-screen QR codes route to NBCUniversal Checkout, the show's producers created a challenge around Lifter Gel, and the Maybelline-branded villa Glam Room was also built out inside the official Love Island app. The licensing arm created a limited-edition Maybelline x Love Island USA Makeup Collection, and the brand stocked the villa with these products and ran live events off-platform. Six of the seven integrated partners renewed from last season, and Maybelline is in its third.

THE LEAD

Maybelline Wrote Itself Into Love Island, and Sales Followed

"Love Island USA" Season 8, which premiered on Peacock on June 2 and ran six nights a week for seven weeks. Courtesy of NBCUniversal.

Maybelline is the official beauty partner of "Love Island USA," which returned to Peacock on June 2, ran six nights a week for seven weeks, and closed Season 8 with Monday night's reunion special. NBCUniversal names seven placements: product supply inside the villa, a "Fairytale Ending" challenge, sponsorship of the First Look next-episode teasers, the official app, shoppable ads whose QR codes route into NBCUniversal Checkout, live fan activations, and licensed limited editions in a Maybelline x Love Island collab.

The show's first week drew 1.31 billion minutes of viewing, up 69% year over year, per Nielsen, and ad investment across the franchise rose 73%. Weekly sales of Lifter Gel grew tenfold between the premiere and the July 12 finale, according to Daash Intelligence.

Maybelline President Yasmin Dastmalchi told Glossy the brand scaled by making the deal more than a product integration, and that people online were talking about "Love Island lip gloss."

Maybelline fully committed to placing its products in the right format for the brand: a buzzy show that skews heavily female, with an average age of 28, and where the need to keep up appearances for fear of being eliminated is built into the premise.

QUICK HITS

YouTube added Amazon to its Shopping Affiliate Program.

U.S. creators in the YouTube Partner Program can now tag Amazon products in videos, Shorts, and livestreams, with earnings paid through AdSense. Amazon joins a merchant roster for its YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program that already carries Nike, Etsy, Best Buy, SharkNinja, Michaels, and Michael Kors. Auto-tagging lets YouTube match products across a channel's back catalog, making older videos shoppable.

Ina Garten launched her first YouTube channel with Vox Media handling sales.

"Happy Hour With Ina Garten" premieres September 16 and runs weekly, filmed in Garten's New York apartment, with Vox Media handling sales, marketing and distribution across YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Instagram and TikTok. Her 14th cookbook arrives October 20. The format is close to "Be My Guest," the series she made for Food Network and Discovery+, so the show is roughly the same one she has always made; only the channel ownership has changed.

Dove released a music video first, then hired 78 creators to promote it.

Dove's Chinese New Year campaign in Malaysia capitalized on a cultural moment around the holiday by creating an original song and video with local studio 1119 Entertainment, then partnering with 78 creators across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Xiaohongshu to promote it. The campaign generated 43.6 million views and 97,600 engagements against 16.1 million users reached, according to AnyMind Group. Yoong Xin Loh, the AnyMind account manager who ran it, says that without the song and music video the campaign would have been more like a typical influencer campaign and wouldn't have stood out as much.

THE TAKEAWAY

Maybelline invested to become part of the Love Island universe, and sales followed. While the First Look sponsorship and shoppable ads are packages the network sells, the challenge, the app build, and the post-finale talent deal each required Love Island producers to write Maybelline into the show, a much deeper level of commitment and not one that's easy for a competing brand to reproduce.

COMMISSIONING SIGNALS — WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2026

Who's buying, hiring, and greenlighting branded content this week, from job-post signals to confirmed deals.

This week's radar: 16 creator and content roles posted. 3 sit in-house at brands, 7 at agencies, 6 at platforms. 4 are director level or above. 9 disclosed a salary band, median $108,350.

Read this: Agencies posted more than twice as many roles as brands this week, and not one of them at director level or above. All four senior roles sit at a platform or a brand: Epic Games, Agentio, Suno, and Mammoth Brands, where the Head of TikTok Shop owns a P&L across Flamingo, Harry's, Lume and Mando. What agencies are buying this week is execution capacity. The companies that own the audience are posting the roles that decide what gets made.

Universe: the 16 creator and content roles listed in Net Influencer's Creator Economy Job Radar for the week of August 25, 2026, the most recent edition published at press time. Salary figures are midpoints of disclosed annual USD base ranges; hourly rates, on-target earnings, and non-USD bands are excluded.

Brands building owned capability

Mammoth Brands — Head of TikTok Shop across four brands

Beauty and personal care · In-house · Social commerce · Flamingo, Harry's, Lume, Mando · Open role · $195,000–$240,000 · Multi-brand P&L · Confirmed intent

Why it matters: One owner for social commerce across four brands puts creator and affiliate strategy on a single P&L instead of four marketing budgets that each fund a slice of it. The open question is whether the LIVE commerce mandate in the listing becomes original programming or stays a selling channel.

Kiss Beauty Group — Senior Manager for TikTok Shop and marketplace

Beauty · In-house · Social commerce · KISS, imPRESS, Falscara · Open role · $91,000–$172,000 · GMV, Shop Ads and affiliate programs · Confirmed intent

Why it matters: The posted band spans $81,000, which is what a company publishes when it hasn't settled whether the job is an operator or a leader. Where it fills is a better read on how seriously Kiss treats the channel than the listing itself.

Citizen — a thousand-creator network, built in-house

Consumer app · In-house · Short-form video · No agency named · Open role · $80,000–$120,000 plus equity · 1,000 active creators a month · Confirmed intent

Why it matters: Citizen is hiring one person to build a thousand-creator network from scratch and to own the incentive and payment structure underneath it. Brands that treat creator sourcing as an agency line item can price the alternative off this listing.

Platforms buying creator supply

YouTube — Amazon joins the Shopping Affiliate Program

Retail and commerce · Platform · Shoppable video · Amazon Influencer and Associates programs · Live in the U.S. · 35 billion hours of shopping content watched in the past year · Confirmed

Why it matters: Creator commerce on YouTube has run on whichever merchants YouTube signed. Adding the largest catalog in U.S. retail means a creator can tag almost anything, and a brand's placement in that video now depends on its Amazon listing rather than on a negotiation.

BBC — Head of Multiplatform Commissioning for YouTube, TikTok and Roblox

Broadcast · In-house · Multiplatform commissioning · YouTube, TikTok, Roblox · Applications close September 7, 2026 · New Multiplatform Hub, audiences 13 to 34 · Confirmed intent

Why it matters: The listing asks for someone "native to the Creator Economy" to run a commissioning hub alongside Factual, Entertainment, Drama and Comedy. A public broadcaster is now recruiting from the same candidate pool as a brand content team, and paying against a permanent senior role rather than a campaign.

Agencies and studios building entertainment arms

NewGen — appointed across four Premier Foods brands

Food · Agency · Organic social, TikTok and Instagram · Mr Kipling, The Spice Tailor, Sharwood's, Loyd Grossman · Announced August 27 · 95 staff, offices in London, Manchester, New York and Paris · Confirmed

Why it matters: Premier Foods gave four heritage brands to a social-first creator agency with a remit for platform-native formats instead of repurposed campaign assets. CMO Catherine Lloyd framed it as modernizing without giving up brand heritage, which is close to the brief every legacy food brand is writing right now.

WME — a campaign manager to monetize its YouTube creator roster

Talent representation · Agency · Creator sponsorships · WME YouTube roster · Open role · $75,000–$100,000 · Pre-sale through contract close · Confirmed intent

Why it matters: The job is media sales sitting inside a talent agency: translate a brand's objectives into creator recommendations, build the package, price the sponsorship. That is the function a network ad sales team used to perform, relocated to the representation side of the table.

Capital buying creator IP

Workweek — $17M and an ad network opened to outside creators

B2B media · Platform · Newsletters · Next Coast Ventures, Aperiam Ventures · Announced August 27 at its Austin Upfronts · $36.5M raised to date, general availability early 2027 · Confirmed

Why it matters: Workweek sells advertisers engagement resolved to named companies across five verified professional networks covering more than 150,000 companies. The pitch is the practitioner creator, someone who still works the job they write about, and it prices an audience by who is in it rather than by how many.
