THE THROUGHLINE
Tom Holland's BERO beer and Robert Downey Jr.'s happy coffee both put their founders' Marvel films on the can this week. BERO brought back its Spider-Man packaging for the film's home release, and happy launched eight Avengers designs ahead of December's theatrical premiere.
Both are turning a studio's release schedule into a retail calendar. Free People built its fall campaign around Willow's music and her record release party. Kaer let a creator's followers help develop a fragrance that sold more in 19 hours than the brand's previous best month.
The common thread is timing: each brand scheduled its sales for a moment when its audience was already paying attention.

THE LEAD
Why Tom Holland's Beer Brand Brought Back Its Spider-Man Cans
BERO, Tom Holland's non-alcoholic beer, put its Spider-Man: Brand New Day cans back on sale on October 8, two days after the film reached digital storefronts. The first run, released with the theatrical premiere in late July, sold out within two weeks and lifted traffic to BERO's site 121%, according to the brand.
The same morning, happy, the canned coffee Robert Downey Jr. co-founded with Craig Dubitsky, launched eight collectible Avengers: Doomsday cans at Kroger, every Albertsons banner, HEB and select Target and CVS stores. Downey plays Doctor Doom, and he's on one of the eight. The film opens December 18.
A week earlier, Pop Secret put the same Doomsday license on limited-edition popcorn boxes, with an $8 Fandango reward for buying three, in many of the same stores.
BERO and happy have an advantage Pop Secret can't buy with a licensing agreement alone: their founders are part of the films on the packaging, so each brand can turn an existing fan relationship into product interest. Pop Secret has to create a different incentive, a movie reward for buying three boxes. BERO, happy and Pop Secret are all selling on Marvel's release calendar, and each converts that attention into purchases a different way.
QUICK HITS
Free People let Willow shape its fall campaign without a traditional brief.
Free People and Willow made a live performance video and a record release party alongside the usual campaign work. Willow performed at Free People's Philadelphia headquarters on October 8. "If you give rigid, you get rigid," CMO Jack Reynolds said at Advertising Week. Willow said the work reaches Black girls the bohemian brand has rarely targeted. The partnership has no end date.

Kaer sold $96,159 of a creator's perfume oil in 19 hours.
The fragrance brand, founded in late 2024, spent about a year developing Our Skin with creator Alexis Wilkerson. She asked her followers to help choose the notes. About 1,600 orders came in, over 80% from first-time customers, per Kaer. Wilkerson controlled the scent direction and the name. Founder Fatima Farouk kept formulation and manufacturing.

David's Bridal turned its most-watched wedding videos into a series.
After buying Love Stories TV, a library of real wedding videos, David's Bridal tracked what viewers watched. The least traditional weddings drew the most views, and Star Wars weddings spiked on May 4. That became "Breaking Bridal," which has filmed a wedding on an active volcano. CEO Kelly Cook's reason: "Middle-funnel marketing is taking a bath." She wants to reach brides without going through Google.

WORTH WATCHING
Substack added three ways for brands to sponsor newsletters.
The Unlock makes a paid post free, The Upgrade gives free readers a month of paid access, and The Masthead commissions writers on a theme. Larger campaigns get a Kantar brand-lift study. Writers opt in through Creator Kits, which show a brand who in its category takes sponsors.

THE TAKEAWAY
A film franchise gives a brand several chances to reach the same audience, from the theatrical premiere to the home release. BERO sold the same cans into two of those dates, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day reaches disc on December 15. Even without integration with a major film franchise, you can plan an entertainment partnership as a calendar of occasions to bring customers back, starting from the first launch.
COMMISSIONING SIGNALS — WEEK OF OCTOBER 13, 2026
Hollywood is hiring creator executives while the biggest creator studio builds its own lot
